Not looking good for Thailand
Well folks, not sure if Thailand is gonna happen. All the airports in Bangkok are closed due to political protests. I’ve been watching the action which is going on over there between the People’s Alliance for Democracy (PAD) and the current government, mainly Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, for the past few months so I know what I’m getting into. But as of yesterday, both Bangkok airports were occupied by PAD protesters and shut down. Therefore, I cannot leave tomorrow as planned. Here’s an article with a good overview of the current situation
BKK is supposed to remain closed until 6pm on Saturday at which time it will hopefully be reopened. As for me, I called United and have rerouted my flight through Tokyo. So now I’m leaving Dec 3rd, spending a few days in Japan and then on to Bangkok. I plan to get out of the city as soon as possible though. Reading blogs from people who are currently over there, it seems that the turmoil is restricted for the most part to Bangkok, a bit in Chang Mai as well. The south is still pretty safe, that’s always the way with beach communities, they’re happy no matter who’s running the country.
Will keep you posted. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving.
